ooh found two mini book reviews in my old journal that i'm going to post here
Seventeen Syllables
Hisaye Yamamoto
A series of short stories by Yamamoto. The prose is simple and the stories are easy to relate to, because along with the unique experiences of Japanese-American citizens during the relocation camps of World War 2, she touches on basic human emotions and experiences. The quietness of her prose is often juxtaposed by her subject matter or the themes she is trying to convey.
Never Let Me Go
Kazuo Ishiguro
Another perfect example of how to convey deep emotional content in subtle, quiet ways. Humanizes the subjects despite what they are, artificially created human beings used to harvest their organs, by following them throughout their childhood and into what they have to do as adults, detailing their every nuance as they explore themselves and their relationships with each other.
